Called But Confused

Every one of us has a promise from God.

Every one of us has a specific calling and purpose in God. That’s true for me and that’s true for you. But sometimes, things prevent us from going after this calling. Whether it be trials and obstacles we face along the way, or the enemy waging war against us, for some of us, we never truly pursue the calling and receive the fullness of what we’re called to do.

But I want to encourage you today!

Even though it’s a very strange time in history, with being stuck at home and living through a pandemic, God’s promises are still true. The promises He’s spoken over your life and my life haven’t changed. If anything, I believe there’s a preparation taking place for those promises to be fulfilled in the fullness of His power!

But you may not being feeling that power just yet.

What if, instead, you feel hurt? What if, instead of power, you feel bitterness? Many people I’ve encountered that have left the ministry feel the same way. They’ve experienced pain and have said to themselves “God must be done with me”…but is that true? Did God go back on His promise to you?

Let’s look at the Word.

Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, ‘So shall your offspring be.’ Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. This is why ‘it was credited to him as righteousness’.” – Romans 4:18-23Abraham had a call on his life. God spoke to him and told him that he would be the father of many nations. As he got older and older and older, though, it hadn’t happened. He had not had the child God had promised, much less many children to become a father of many nations.

I think most of us in that situation would have gave up hope. What we would have said to ourselves in light of unfulfilled promises was “this wasn’t for me”. That promise God spoke just wasn’t for me. It must have been for somebody else. I’m too old to have kids, and so is my wife, so God obviously didn’t mean that for me. I’m just going to go ahead and pass that on to somebody else.

Doesn’t that just make you sad? But look again at verses 20-21.

Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21 being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised.” – Romans 4:20-21

Abraham believed God was able to do what He had promised! That takes FAITH!  That’s the only way he could believe something so crazy at that point in his life. FAITH!

I know people will read this who currently find themselves at that point. God spoke to you about your destiny, your calling, and your mission, but as the years have gone by and you’re no longer in your 20’s or 30’s, you’re saying to yourself “well, either we missed it or God wants it for somebody else”.

But look at Abraham’s scenario. The Lord specifically told him “you’re going to be the father of many nations”. He’s beyond help in his physical body. His wife’s beyond help. But yet, somehow, he never wavered in his belief that God could do that miracle. He grew strong in his faith and it came from him giving glory to God, fully convinced God was able to do what He had promised.

You know what that says? That says “God you’re so awesome. You can do the miraculous! You can do impossible things! You can take my life and use me to change the world! You can do the things you’ve shown me you will!”

If God gave you that promise, that’s yours!  The promise God gave you is yours. Run with it! Don’t waver! Don’t look at your life! Don’t look at your age! Don’t look at your circumstances and say “oh I missed it”. That’s a lie of the enemy because Abraham was more justified in saying he missed it than anybody in the whole earth, but yet he was still fully convinced God was able to do what He had promised!

If you don’t know the end of the story, Abraham and Sarah end up having a child. Think about that! It seemed impossible, but it happened! Nothing is impossible with our God! He can heal the sick! He can do the miraculous! He can multiply loaves and fishes!  He has no limitations!

The Lord knows the promise He gave you. It’s our job not to waver. How do we do that? We give glory to God every day, until it comes to pass. If you have not seen that promise come to pass yet, your job is not to quit.

Nothing is impossible with God! Believe in that today.

Blessings,

Aaron
